Sure that some of you remember the article we shared with you when we talked about why if you spent a summer in Spain, this was only going to be the first of many.

Beyond our coasts, our landscapes, our gastronomic offer, based on the Mediterranean diet, and the possibility of doing your favourite outdoor activities for almost 300 days a year, the truth is that Spain offers a series of benefits for foreigners looking to take up residence in our country and that make it a more than interesting place to live once you have retired or, now with the possibility of teleworking, to settle in a place where you can perfectly combine working from home and leisure.

Do you want to know which are the benefits we are talking about?

Reasons why Spain is an ideal place to buy a residence after summer

Although it is not strictly speaking a benefit, it is true that the price of homes in certain areas of Spain can be affordable, either with the idea of residing there or as an investment to get a permanent economic return or during the months when you are not going to enjoy the property.

However, we must warn you that interest rates are rising sharply and mortgages are going to be affected. In general, in the case of foreigners, the bank can force you to have a good amount of money saved as it will not give a high percentage of the mortgage.

In addition, it is common that, once the summer season is over, we find a greater supply of available housing.

On the other hand, although moving to Spain means moving away from family, friends and loved ones, we can assure you that you will feel right at home. The coastal areas, for example in the regions of Alicante, Murcia or Almeria, have growing communities of foreign residents. It is relatively easy to find people with the same tastes, hobbies and, importantly, language, with whom you can practice your favourite sports, go on excursions or simply enjoy a good conversation.

In terms of benefits, Spain offers one of the best and most complete public health and healthcare systems in existence today. Access to public health care is free for all residents.

However, certain medicines must be paid for, although, as long as they are prescribed by a doctor, the price is extremely low.

Finally, although obtaining residency in our country is not so immediate after the end of the period of the “Withdrawal Agreement”, the options for obtaining a visa and residency are relatively affordable.

In this regard, we recommend that you always count on the help of professionals, since the procedures in the Spanish administration, together with the language barrier, can delay the process over time.

Where do I start looking for my new residence in Spain?

The search for a home or property is something very personal. The same thing that happens when you are looking to buy a home in your own country, there are a series of factors that condition your decision.

Beyond the economic possibilities, there is a very important point regarding tastes and preferences. A house in the city, in the suburbs, with a garden, with a terrace or not….When we look for a place abroad to buy a home or to establish our residence, it happens in a very similar way.

If there is one thing that makes Spain stand out, it is the diversity found in our geography. If we travel from north to south and from east to west, we will see the changes that occur from one place to another, not only in the landscape, but also in the temperature, for example.

We know that the north of Spain is much colder and with much less sunshine and that the Mediterranean area, as well as enjoying an average annual temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius, offers more than 300 days of sunshine a year.

If we talk about the preference of foreign residents in Spain, without any doubt, the Mediterranean area is where most of them have established their residence, especially in the areas of Alicante, Murcia or Almeria where we can really find communities where they are counted by thousands.

What we would like to emphasize is the importance of having a professional to help with all the formalities of the sale and purchase. We mentioned earlier that the Spanish administrative system can be very complex, even more so if you are doing the paperwork from abroad.
