As many of you already know, Spain, as well as most of the countries belonging to the Schengen area, the European Union and the United Kingdom have recently opened their borders, allowing international air traffic between member countries and the arrival of both tourists and residents in our country.

This important measure, with which, the end of the state of alarm in our country is approaching, supposes an important liberation for the Spanish tourist sector. Also the possibility of the return to their residence, for many Spanish residents that until now and due to the restrictions imposed, they had not been able to fly back to Spain.

It is important that you know that in the case of flights to Spain, the government through the Ministry of Health, has established three security controls for all passengers to contain the coronavirus.

The first of these criterias is based on the calls “in the responsible declaration” of the visitors, in which the traveller will be asked for health information as well as all that related to their stay in Spain or the places they will visit.

The next filter will be the taking of temperature, while the third will be the third “visual” on the state of health of the traveller.

If any visitor does not pass any of these controls, the passenger will be treated by a Foreign Health doctor, who according to the diagnosis, may refer the patient to the Spanish health service.

In the case of foreigners residing in Spain, the government has decreed the obligation to present a valid travel document and the family card of a citizen of the Union, or the foreigner’s identity card even if it has expired.

In addition, contrary to what happens in other countries, in Spain the first regulation on initial confinement for a period of 14 days of all tourists or residents landing in Spain has been removed, so, together with the end of the state of alarm, also allows freedom of all movement within Spanish territory.

Once in Spain, the 1.5m social distance measures must be followed. People six years of age and older, are obliged to use masks in public spaces, except for:

  • People who present some type of respiratory difficulty that can be aggravated by the use of a mask.
  • People in whom the use of a mask is contraindicated for duly justified health reasons, or who, due to their situation of disability or dependency, present behavioural changes that make their use unfeasible.
  • Development of activities in which, by their very nature, the use of the mask is incompatible, such as the intake of food and beverages.
